Have a Holly Jolly Christmas was written by Johnny Marks in 1962. Marks also wrote the song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
The Quinto Sisters titled their first album Holly Jolly Christmas in 1964.
In 1964, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas was featured in the TV special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Burl Ives, the narrator, sang Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.
Ives re-recorded the song for his 1965 holiday album, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. This somewhat slower version than the one used in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, is the version more commonly known today.
The song’s popularity endures and in 2001 it reached #5 on the Holiday 100 chart.
