Iowa Stubborn

If you are a fan of the musical genre, one of your first thoughts of Iowa may originate from the Music Man.

Des Moines, Iowa

The opening of the musical features the song Iowa Stubborn, better known as “You are in I-ow-a.”

Professor Harold Hill {who is unknown to the people} is encouraged to “give Iowa a try”.

The Music Man was written by Meredith Wilson.

Nine Iowa cities are named near the end of the song, including Wilson’s birthplace of Mason City. Mason City inspired Wilson to write The Music Man.

Cedar Falls, Iowa

The Music Man first hit  Broadway theaters in 1957 with Robert Preston in the lead role. In 1962, Preston and Shirley Jones played the leads in the film version.   A 2003 TV remake was made starring Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth.
