I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is a Christmas song written by British songwriter, Tommie Connor.kissing-santa

The fun song was commissioned by Saks Fifth Avenue to promote the store’s Christmas Card that year.  The original sketch on the Christmas card was drawn by Perry Barlow, an artist for The New Yorker.

Thirteen-year-old, Jimmy Boyd, originally recorded the song in July 1952.  His version reached #1 on the Billboard pop charts that December.

Some radio stations initially banned the song when it was first released on the belief the song portrayed adultery.  A close listen of the song implies the child’s father is the “Santa Claus” the child’s mother is kissing.

The song has been recorded by artists such as Andy Williams, Jackson 5, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Simpson and Reba McEntyre.

A movie was made based on the song in 2001.
