A Bushel and a Peck

A Bushel and a Peck was written by Frank Loesser and published in 1950.

The song was introduced in the musical Guys and Dolls which opened on Broadway in November 1950.  Vivian Blaine sung the song on stage on opening night.  The song was already a hit thanks to released by Doris Day and the Como and Hutto duet.

The song was so well known and popular, it was moved from it’s original spt in the second act tot he first act. 

The song was omitted from the film version of Guys and Dolls and replaced by the new song “Pet Me, Poppa”.

Perry Como and Betty Hutto released their recording in late 1950, which reached #6 on the Billboard charts.  The song stayed on the chart for 18 weeks.

Doris Day recorded the song on September 13, 1950 and Columbia Records released it in late 1950.  The song reached #30 on the charts.

Day’s rendition is still so popular State Farm Insurance used it for the TV Commercial in 2017.
